Thoughts regarding last night’s gig at The Marr’s Bar!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2010 by jackshammer93

Once in every while, there comes a gig that blows the mind ; making all the blood, sweat and tears that we’ve shed over the last 17 years seem so very much worth it.

Last night (June 26th) was such a gig.

Supporting the amazingly gifted Highway Five in their bitter-sweet “Last Stand”, Hammer were privileged to not only open up the night, but to also experience a very healthy crowd that were nothing less than 100% supportive of our efforts. Never before have we had appreciation in such volume … And it was consistent throughout our 47 minutes onstage, at The Marr’s Bar. From beginning to end, we were grinning like lunatics ; totally ensconced in grateful awe, whilst taking our ‘oh be joyful’ attitude to higher levels.
A cover of Led Zep’s “Rock ‘n Roll” drew our set to a rapturous close, leaving us floating somewhere in the ether.

… and when our good friends, Highway Five, took the stage, it was nothing less than a masterclass in presentation and execution. There was some absolutely sublime stuff pouring from the speakers, prompting many “these guys are far too good to split up” exclamations.
Ninety superb minutes passed by in what seemed like a flash, serving as an amazing, rousing epitaph to a truly talented trio.

Of course, Noor, Ben and Dunc are all now moving forward with their respective endeavours – so they’ll be back on the scene soon, peddling more quality material … But Highway Five? – You will be sorely missed – by band and music lover alike.

And as for us Hammer boys ; we made a lot of new friends, last night – and we feel honoured to have done so. Here’s hoping that our paths cross again soon 🙂

Kudos, much respect – and RAWWWWWWK ON!!!!

‘The Big Band Bash’, and a studio report!

Posted in Uncategorized on June 10, 2010 by jackshammer93

On Sunday, June 20th – at 3pm – Hammer will be opening proceedings at ‘The Big Band Bash’, at Kington Football Ground (Herefordshire).
It will be a day filled with varying genres of music, so Hammer will in effect be flying the melodic rock/metal flag, upon this upcoming day … And yeah ; we’re greatly looking forward to it! 🙂

… and in other news ; The recording and mixing of our new song, “Can You Hear Me?” is now fully done and dusted! – so another sound upload to our MySpace page is pretty imminent ; AHHH YEAHHHHHHHH!

The pleasure … is all ours!

Rocka-dub-Dubs!

As some of you may already know ; On Saturday, May 1st, Hammer kicked off musical proceedings at the Dubs @ The Farm VW Festival, in Brimfield, Shropshire.

We held back the rain, and gave those assembled our best … and they duly reciprocated and gave us some great support. Many thanks for that, everyone!
Our cover of “Whiskey In The Jar” (the first time we’d ever gigged it) went down the proverbial storm, with Andrew from our brother band, Secret Stash, more than ably joining in on harmonious backing vocals.

Thankfully, the crowd were encouragingly appreciative, regarding our own stuff, too – with random horn throwing ( \m/ ), and cries of “Turn it up!” and (latterly) “One more song!” filling the air!

Yes indeed ; a grey cold and eventually rainy evening it was … but it was also a whole lotta fun!

Of cancelled gigs and rockin’ re-debuts!

Posted in Uncategorized on April 25, 2010 by jackshammer93

After the deep disappointment, regarding The Blue Rooms’ unspecified cancellation of the Fred Zep/Hammer gig (for April 23rd), earlier in the week, Hammer dusted themselves down and played their first gig of 2010…

… And the gig at Karlo’s on Saturday, April 17th … was an absolute blast!
Even despite the sparse but very appreciative crowd watching us kick off the evening, we hit the ground running and gave it maximum ‘oh be joyful’. The ‘old faithfuls’ felt like they had a punch that had been slightly lacking over recent years, and the airing of the sole newbie track, “Clouds”, went down really damn well.

In view of the recent events, surrounding the whole previously mentioned Blue Rooms cancellation, it seemed only fitting to close the set with Led Zep’s awesome chestnut “Rock & Roll”, too! … And suffice to say, it was an absolute pleasure to share the boards with DERAILED and Marzipan Moon, also ; both bands put their best foot forward, played some sublime stuff and made the night a very fond one for us.

Man! ; It’s good to be back! 😉

Next stop for us is the Dubs @ The Farm VW Fest, on May 1st, in Shropshire!
