Once in every while, there comes a gig that blows the mind ; making all the blood, sweat and tears that we’ve shed over the last 17 years seem so very much worth it.
Last night (June 26th) was such a gig.
Supporting the amazingly gifted Highway Five in their bitter-sweet “Last Stand”, Hammer were privileged to not only open up the night, but to also experience a very healthy crowd that were nothing less than 100% supportive of our efforts. Never before have we had appreciation in such volume … And it was consistent throughout our 47 minutes onstage, at The Marr’s Bar. From beginning to end, we were grinning like lunatics ; totally ensconced in grateful awe, whilst taking our ‘oh be joyful’ attitude to higher levels.
A cover of Led Zep’s “Rock ‘n Roll” drew our set to a rapturous close, leaving us floating somewhere in the ether.
… and when our good friends, Highway Five, took the stage, it was nothing less than a masterclass in presentation and execution. There was some absolutely sublime stuff pouring from the speakers, prompting many “these guys are far too good to split up” exclamations.
Ninety superb minutes passed by in what seemed like a flash, serving as an amazing, rousing epitaph to a truly talented trio.
Of course, Noor, Ben and Dunc are all now moving forward with their respective endeavours – so they’ll be back on the scene soon, peddling more quality material … But Highway Five? – You will be sorely missed – by band and music lover alike.
And as for us Hammer boys ; we made a lot of new friends, last night – and we feel honoured to have done so. Here’s hoping that our paths cross again soon 🙂
Kudos, much respect – and RAWWWWWWK ON!!!!
